The South Light from the Castle © C J Webster

The South Light was completed in 1897, together with the North Light after it was realised that the Old Light was sited so high that it was often obscured by clouds.

The lighthouse was converted to solar power and automated in 1994 bringing to an end 174 years of light house keeping on Lundy. It was always a popular posting as it was one of the few off-shore lighthouses where you could walk to the pub!
