The remains of the Kaaksburg © A J Schofield

The 486 tonne MV Kaaksburg ran into Lundy on the early morning of 6 November 1980 and stuck fast. The crew escaped onto the island and were flown off by rescue helicopter. During the winter of the following year the aft portion broke away and sank into deep water, leaving just the bows to slowly disintegrate.
