These houses were built by the Lundy Granite Company in the 1860s for the company surgeon, the engineer and the foreman of works. A Hospital was built to the north and other buildings, "Quarterwall Cottages" were built to house the quarry workers. Most of the stone from Quarterwall Cottages was later used to build the church. The Granite Company also built at the north end of the present village, including Barton Cottages and wooden buildings.
