If you were present at the 2015 and 2016 AGMs you may recall the discussion about providing a memorial bursary in the name of our former President, Sir Jack Hayward, who died in January last year. I'm pleased to report that we have now been able to make an award in Sir Jack's name to Luke Sutton for his continued research into the Lundy peregrine population.
Luke has been studying the peregrines for the last three years and the award will provide support for his research into foraging ecology. With LFS committee member, Tom Dickins, discussions are underway to plan future work on predator-prey interactions that will link in with Tom's work on seabirds.
The recent Journal contains one of Luke's papers and you can read his earlier paper in the 2014 Annual Report or online here.
On behalf of the Grants sub-committee we would like to thank everyone who made a donation in Sir Jack's memory that made this award possible.
