Building on the two previous successful DISCOVER LUNDY weeks in 2012 and 2016, and the 2021 week which was cancelled due to the pandemic, we are organising a follow up event in May 2026. The Discover Lundy week will give you the opportunity to learn much more about the island’s history, archaeology and natural history with expert members of the LFS sharing their knowledge through a series of talks, walks and activities.
2026 is the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Lundy Field Society so we plan to commemorate the anniversary with special events during the week, including a number of social gatherings which were very popular last time.
We will also hold the AGM on Lundy for the first time in our history! More details will be provided nearer the time.
We have reserved accommodation for the whole week from Saturday 16th to Saturday 23rd May 2026.
Planning of the activities and events is still in progress, but the programme is developing into an interesting and exciting one! You are, of course, free to attend as many sessions as you wish to. Here’s a sample of the diverse range of subjects and activities that members participated in during the previous Discover Lundy events:
Bird ringing demonstrated by Tony Taylor
Seashore safari led by Keith Hiscock
Birdwatch Lundy – seabirds and land birds with Tim Davis & Tim Jones
Exploring Lundy’s flora with Andrew Cleave
Freshwater wildlife with Alan Rowland
Lundy film night introduced by André Coutanche
Lundy fungi with John Hedger
Discovering Lundy’s archaeology with Chris Webster
The Great Lundy Bake Off
Anniversary dinner in the Marisco Tavern
The church has a large, flexible area for our activities and plenty of space should the weather be inclement.
